HALIFAX – A businessman trying to bring a CFL team to Halifax says a contest to create a team name is a "horse race" between the Atlantic Schooners and the Atlantic Storm.
Anthony LeBlanc of Maritime Football Ltd. does not say which name has the advantage, but he says he is surprised that the vote is as close as she is.
The name should be unveiled at an event on Friday at the Gray Cup festivities in Edmonton.
The exclusive contest is part of a season ticket campaign launched two weeks ago.
LeBlanc says his group has received more than 5,000 deposits, which for $ 50 put fans on a priority list for entry to the season and selection of seats on a first-come, first-served basis.
He says he considers the number "pretty phenomenal," as his group has yet to do any paid marketing, adding that the details of a wider campaign will also be released on Friday.
