A total of 48,303 cases of dengue fever and 52 cases of dengue fever were reported nationwide by December 20 of this year, according to sources at the Epidemiology Unit. According to sources, the highest number of dengue cases, 9,551 were reported in the district of Colombo, while the second highest number, 5,408 had been reported from the district of Gampaha. The third highest number of dengue cases, 4,727 had been reported in Batticaloa district.
"The Colombo City Council (CMC) reported a total of 2,359 cases of dengue during the same period. Other parts of the district of Colombo recorded a total of 7192 cases of dengue fever. The total number of dengue cases recorded in the Western Province is 17,844, "epidemiologists said.
Meanwhile, medical experts and consultants advise the public to seek medical treatment without delay for any type of fever without applying home remedies. "All patients with fever need rest and should refrain from attending work or school. Patients are advised to take Paracetamol only. however, refrain from taking other medications, especially non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen to cause Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), which can be fatal, "they said.
