Main stories: Pixel 3 DxO, Home Hub, more

In the main news this week: Google's Pixel 3 gets its official DxO score and is controversial. We've discussed more than a dozen Google Home Hub tips, more about the dark Android mode, new reviews, Android Pie updates, and more …

The best gifts for Android users

One of the biggest stories of last week was the revelation of the DxO score for the Pixel 3 camera. Google's smartphone cameras are among the best in recent years, but Pixel 3 had a surprisingly low score of 101, only 3 points ahead of OnePlus 6T and a draw with the iPhone XR.

Especially noteworthy in this test is that Pixel 3 matches the iPhone XR by its total score. The iPhone, by comparison, has a score of 103 and 96 for photo and video, respectively, and previously held the crown as the best single lens phone until the Pixel 3 score was released. This score leaves Pixel tied for 5th place overall results.

This week, Google also revealed that its Chrome browser would be receiving an update to prevent sites from taking advantage of the history feature to prevent users from returning.

There is a problem with the web that we all probably face. You will read an article on a less than stellar site and find out that this is not what you were looking for. So when you use the Back button to exit, nothing happens and you have to click multiple times to actually quit. The Google Chrome team calls this "history manipulation" and has created a new solution to stop it.

Our own Damien Wilde also left his full review of Mobvoi's new Ticwatch C2 this week. Although not a perfect smartwatch, it has earned high marks on its tests as a solid Wear OS device, especially for the price of $ 199.00.

Huawei announced this week that its Android Pie update would also start shipping. Several of Copmany's flagship smartphones are being upgraded to the latest version of Android and it also carries the cleanest layer of EMUI 9.0 on top.

This week, Huawei announced that its update of Android Pie is beginning to be targeted to users around the world for selected devices. Huawei is launching this update for several devices in the beginning, including last year's Huawei Mate 10 / Pro and Huawei P20 / Pro as well. Honor Play, Honor View 10 and Honor 10 should also see the update at some point in the near future.
