Liberals seek to build a positive picture of billions in living expenses

OTTAWA – Early details of the Liberal government's decades-old housing plan show that initial spending helped keep about 14,000 families in affordable units.

The national housing strategy is only a few months old, with many parts of the plan being launched in April and more to be launched in the coming months.

Liberals have not yet fulfilled the promise of consecrating the strategy, its goals, and its spending on law.

Today, liberals will use the National Housing Day to talk about $ 5.7 billion in social spending that the government says has helped more than 775,000 families since coming to power.

Background papers show that the amount spent includes money budgeted annually for housing programs and dollars that the Liberals have set aside in their first budget in 2016.
