The new trailer for Shadowy phoenix (also known as X-Men: Black Phoenix) arrived and it is beautiful, very dark.
Following 2016 Apocalypse and based on the famous comic storyline The Black Phoenix Saga, the film sees Jean Gray (Sophie Turner) consumed by a cosmic entity during a space mission.
In Jean's return to Earth, the powerful "Phoenix Force" begins to take control – encouraged by the mysterious villain of Jessica Chastain (the & devil in Jean's shoulder, according to writer / director Simon Kinberg) – and it's up to the X-Men, led by James's Professor X McAvoy, to stop her.
You can watch the trailer below. Be warned though: if you want to go to the cold movie, the trailer apparently gives a huge – and potentially spoilery – plot point …
So, erm, things do not look very exciting for Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique there ("Why did you make me do it? She was my friend …"). It's surprising that they caused such a big time in the trailer, so do not expect everything to be as it seems.
Elsewhere, with its space mission vibe that went awry by showing the Phoenix Force as a real cosmic entity, the trailer at least calms some fears that the movie bears any resemblance to X-Men: The Last Stand – the previous attempt by the series (and the writer Kinberg) to adapt the comic arc, which relegated the Phoenix to a split personality of Jean.
This could be the last adequate installment (we're still waiting The new mutantsin the X-Men franchise as we know it, with Disney's agreement with Fox signifying that the rights of the mysterious mutants could revert to Marvel, their spiritual home. If this is the case, you can Shadowy phoenix to end the series on high? We'll find out when the movie hits theaters on June 7.
