In a move that is likely to be controversial, Facebook's proprietary Instagram aims to get people to value the real posts of their friends and followers instead of just the likes.
The test is slated to begin later this week and will remove the likes of photos and video views.
Users will still be able to see your likes and followers will continue to enjoy posts, but you will only be able to see your own likes.
This is not the first update that the social network has made to lessen the importance of the metrics of its users. An iOS update last week adjusted the profiles to make follower counts less prominent, among some other changes.
As this is just a test, it is not clear if Instagram will get rid of tanned. Regardless, it will be interesting to see the answer to this change when the trial begins.
