A christmas Carol is one of the best-known Christmas stories of all time. Charles Dickens' 1843 novel was adapted many times to tell, both for the stage and for the screen.
If there is a theater company in your town, it is likely that they are producing the story of Ebenezer Scrooge at this time of year. There were operatic versions, ballet and animated adaptations for TV. And since 1901, there have been more than 15 cinematic versions of the book. One of the most beloved stars is a bunch of puppets.
Muppet's Carol is one of the best adaptations of the Dickens story
On paper, it does not look like a musical adaptation of A christmas Carol starring a mix of human actors and Muppets should work. But it definitely does. The 1992 movie features Michael Caine as Scrooge, Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy as Mrs. Cratchit, and a host of other Muppets' familiar faces in supporting roles.
The film (directed by Jim Henson's son Brian Henson) is aimed at children but is so enjoyable for adults. He balances humor and seriousness and features a standout performance from Caine as the man who learns the true meaning of Christmas as well as some captivating songs.
