Google Duo was first announced on Google I / O 2016 along with Google Allo. You may be aware that Allo is finally getting the ax in a few months, but the story with Duo is just the opposite. It is a long-range success and even comes pre-installed on many Android devices.

This fact is probably the most significant contributing factor to reaching today's milestone of 1,000,000,000 installations. As noted by AP, only one application that does not come pre-installed – Subway Surfers – has more than 1 billion downloads in the Play Store.

In the recent Google update on the status of messages in the company, the Duo was the main focus. At the newly establish 2 by 2 message application grid covering both "friends" and "teams", it serves as the video counterpart of the first category.
