Toronto police say two-and-a-half-year-old girl dead after being hit by air conditioner that fell from an apartment on the eighth floor.
Const. Caroline de Kloet, a police spokeswoman, said the child died in hospital after being hit Monday in front of an apartment building in the east.
"It's a terrible tragedy," she said. "From the interviews the investigators conducted, they came to the conclusion that there will be no criminal charges."
De Kloet said the young man was with other people at the time, but investigators have not yet confirmed who they were, or whether the girl's family lives in the same area.
She also said there was information that a stroller was seen at the scene, but it is not yet known if the girl was in it.
The spokeswoman also said that the air conditioner I was in a window before falling.
Police received a call for help in the far east of the city around 3:30 pm and, upon arrival, found that an air conditioner fell from a suite and hit the child.
She was taken to hospital with very serious injuries.
