BENI, Congo – The mayor of a town in the Congo and medical aid group Médecins Sans Frontières say intruders have wreaked havoc at an Ebola treatment center in the town of Butembo, Ebola's second clinic attacked in a week.
Butembo Mayor Sylvain Kanyamanda said unidentified intruders burned tents and other equipment at the center on Wednesday.
Doctors Without Borders, who runs the treatment center, says it is focusing on the safety of staff and patients.
Burglars attacked another Ebola treatment center run by the aid group on Sunday in Katwa, killing one person and wounding another.
Attacks by multiple armed groups and instability have been challenges to contain an Ebola outbreak that began in August.
But Doctors Without Borders says they believe the centers have become targets because of mistrust in the community.
