Destiny 2: Black Armory is not an expansion, it's a Destiny signature

Although we are currently unsure of what to call it – hence our own reference to it as an expansion or mini-expansion in the past – it is certainly different from the traditional Destiny content declines. Rather than, Destination 2: Black Arsenal seems like a promise that more is coming after only a small taste of new content.

When I started Black Arsenal, I was sent to speak to the Spider of Forsaken, who then sent me to the Tower to meet Ada-1 – the new supplier of Black Arsenal. Ada, though reluctant to work with the Guardian, sent me on a mission to build a weapon frame for her. I killed Fallen, a specific boss and some powerful enemies – all as I was instructed. When I returned, Ada sent me and my three-person squad to the Volundr Forge, a brand-new activity in Black Arsenal.

The Volundr Forge – and presumably all the forges to come – is a wave-based mode. I know you've probably heard this before, but so far this forge is the most fun I've ever had in one of these modes Destiny or Destination 2. The goal is to kill specific and bright enemies while defending yourself from an army of normal enemies. Those who shine drop the batteries, and you need to load the forge – this is done by hurling the battery through the air and into the forge itself, which is somehow fun at a time.

The problem is that the mode is timed, and you only have one minute to put 20 batteries. Each brilliant enemy killed and the deposited battery adds time, but the clock is tight. However, the more powerful you are, and the more you learn the mode, the faster you can get. Modes like Blind Well and Escalation Protocol seemed to wait for enough enemies to progress when you reach a high power level. But so far, the forge allows you to move as fast as your expertise allows and always commits to the task of manually firing the batteries.

After completing my first forge, I was awarded the Hammerhead, the first legendary machine gun Destination 2. At that point, I opened Ada as a vendor and new options opened up for me to continue. I could work with rewards and continue playing the forge in order to create the legendary self rifle – which can only be done after building another frame, a time-consuming process. Or I could secure myself a randomly rolled Gambit or Crucible weapon. Each of these Black Arsenal weapons have randomly rolled advantages over them, which means you have a reason to forge the same thing a second, third or 50th time.

Faking itself is not only the most enjoyable of these new features, it is also the most rewarding. During the time I played, I discovered several reasons to go through this again and I am eagerly waiting for my chance to create a new Hammerhead better than mine. The forge offers the perfect amount of varied gameplay and commitment paired with exceptional and exciting rewards.

Interestingly, the forge is also extremely high at the moment, making it very difficult. The first of the three waves – with the third wave culminating in a boss fight – has a recommended power level of 610, increasing to 630 before completion of the forge. For those who have not been around in the last few months, there are 10 levels of power higher than the end of Destiny 2: Abandoned as the baseline.

Starting Black Arsenal at 600, my team still managed to complete several forging races on the first day. However, there was a lot of trial and error in between. While many players are frustrated with this – just check the answers to any of the recent news from Bungie. Black Arsenal tweets – this energy staggering is a great addition for late game players. It offers a challenge that players who are sitting at 600 for weeks are missing. There are tons of Forsaken to play, and to those who have reached the limit and exhausted, Black Arsenal is here to bring more.

And finally, this is what Black Arsenal is: more content for those who ran out of things to do. At the moment, there is only one forge available and that's all. I have seen all that is known in the expansion. But okay, because another forge is coming in a few days, along with a new attack. After that, we have a complete schedule of new Black Arsenal things coming in the next few weeks.

Black Arsenal and the Annual Pass is not for players who still need to reach 600 – they probably still have a lot Forsaken do it. Right now, Black Arsenal is a drip feed to keep longtime players as I am excited to return to Destiny every Tuesday and see what is happening. This is a feeling I have been missing in the last few weeks. For players who are still going through Forsaken, all this will still be here and ready for them in a few weeks.

When you pay for the annual Pass, you're paying for a way to play Destiny for the next nine months, not one at a time. It is similar to paying for a World of Warcraft signature, with the promise of patches with more content to keep it invested in the coming months. Black Arsenal It's not over, it's just beginning.

Destiny 2: Abandoned rebuilt the game in what should have been in 2017. He has created an incredible base that still has players interested months later. Black Arsenal and the Annual Pass aims to broaden this base in a new way. This will cause some pain – especially in terms of the players' expectations. But from what little I've seen, I can not wait to get into Destiny every week next year and see what news I have to make.
