Firefighters were called to a farm in Wellesley Township for reports of a fully-fledged barn fire.
The call came just before 6:00 p.m. on Monday to the barn on the Lobsinger Line, west of St. Clements.
The family who lives on the property was accounted for, according to police, but they confirmed that there are livestock in the barn.
Regional police said there were 400 pigs and 50 heads of cattle inside the building at the time of the fire, but firefighters are not sure how many animals died.
Firefighters from all three stations in Wellesley Township responded, along with a St. Jacobs tanker.
His immediate concern was to protect a propane tank near the barn before shifting his focus to two large nearby silos.
The Lobsinger line was closed most of the night in both directions, from Hackbart Road to Moser Young Road.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and damages are expected to exceed $ 500,000, said the deputy chief of fire department.
