Ottawa, December 15, 2018 – The industry is recalling certain cauliflower, red lettuce and green lettuce produced by Adam Bros. Farming Inc. of Santa Maria, California, United States of America due to possible E. coli O157: H7 contamination. The affected products described below were imported from Adam Bros Farming Inc. by: Courchesne Larose Ltd., Anjou, QC, Dominion Citrus, Toronto, ON; Fresh Taste Produce Limited, Milton, ON; and Fruits and Vegetables Gaetan Bono Inc.Montreal, QC. Consumers, retailers, restaurants, and institutions shall not sell, use, or consume the withdrawn products described below.

The following products, grown in the USA, are known to have been sold in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador and may have been sold in other provinces.

What you should do

If you think you have become ill from using a withdrawn product, call your doctor.

Make sure you have recovered products in your home. The products collected must be discarded or returned to the store where they were purchased. If you are not sure if the products are included in this recall, please contact the place where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with E. coli O157: H7 it may not look or smell spoiled, but it can still make you sick. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps, and watery or bloody diarrhea. In severe cases of illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and renal dialysis, or live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people can die.

This recall was triggered by a recall in the United States, which resulted from an investigation into a disease outbreak transmitted by E. coli O157: H7 linked to the consumption of romaine lettuce. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is working with the US Food and Drug Administration and is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to withdrawal of other products. If other high-risk products are collected, the CFIA will notify the public through up-to-date food recall alerts.

The CFIA is verifying that the industry is removing recovered product from the market.
