Central American and Caribbean Air Chiefs visit the 12th Air Force (Southern Air Forces) :: Dialogo Americas


The Southern Air Forces hosted the leaders of eight air forces from Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Twelfth Air Force (South Air Force) hosted the Central America and Caribbean Conference with participants from Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico and Panama from November 6 to 8, 2018. Eight countries participated in the meeting. a three-day conference that focused on humanitarian assistance and disaster response and how to leverage Air Force partnerships in those areas.

"It's about partnerships," said Lieutenant Colonel Roderick Rowe, commander of the Jamaican Defense Force Air Force. "At these conferences, you build bridges; you can call a partner nation to say that we are willing to help in an effort. So if a partner can supply an aspect of need, we can better share and leverage our resources for the benefit of our fellow men. "

Each participating Air Force representative shared information about their own unique capabilities as well as the challenges and successes of the past. "Ultimately, the unions build strength," Brig said. General Juan Dario Tejada Quintana, commander of the Air Force of the Dominican Republic. "We have seen that shared aid from different nations has been very valuable to countries affected by natural disasters."

Air chiefs or their representatives also received information on the Cooperation System between the American Air Forces (SICOFAA) and the InterAmerican Air Forces Academy (IAAFA). Representatives of the state units of the National Air Guard in partnership with the South American Air Forces through the State Partnership Program also participated in the conference.

"We can do things on our own, but together we can achieve greater success," said General Quintana. In addition, participants discussed the importance of enlisted force for air force operations and visited the 612th Air Operations Center and the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group during the conference.

The conference is an example of the lasting partnership of the 12th Air Forces Southern with the Latin American Air Forces. It reflects the United States' enduring promise of friendship, partnership and solidarity with the Americas.
