Canadiens assigns Xavier Ouellet to Laval


CHICAGO – The Canadiens awarded defender Xavier Ouellet for Laval Rocket from AHL on Saturday.

Ouellet, 25, has played 19 games with the Habs so far this season, taking three assists and a 17:01 average ice time per game.

He also hit 32 hits and 30 blocked shots.

The six-year veteran holds five goals and 26 points in 160 career NHL games with Detroit and Montreal.

The Canadiens agreed to enter into an agreement with Ouellet in a two-year contract on July 1.

He was selected in the second round, 48 overall by the Red Wings in the 2011 NHL Draft.
