Bus driver charged in a vehicle-pedestrian collision

Halifax police issued a summary offense note to a 48-year-old driver of a Halifax Transit bus for not giving in to a pedestrian at the pedestrian crossing.

The ticket comes from an incident that occurred around 7.25 p.m. Last Friday at Portland Street in Dartmouth.

"A Halifax transportation bus was traveling down Portland Street when it collided with a 52-year-old woman on a marked pedestrian crossing," Halifax police said in a statement. "The woman suffered fatal injuries and was transported to the hospital by EHS."

Part of Portland Street remained closed until 11 pm last Friday, while the accident investigation section examined the scene.
