The e-commerce company opened its first Amazon Go store on the Seattle campus in January, where people use the Amazon Go smartphone on a sensor to get in, buy groceries and leave without having to go to a cashier or pay on a record. . Amazon says it uses computer vision, algorithms, and sensors to detect the items a buyer took, before that person's bill is charged. There are now seven Amazon Go stores in the US and the company is considering opening 3,000 stores by 2021.
The UK is a major market for Amazon, which said it saw "record levels" of purchases in the country at the start of its sale on Black Friday. It has hired 20,000 seasonal workers for the vacation period this year.
