About 20 children fall ill at LaSalle School

Emergency teams rushed to a primary school in LaSalle on Monday, when about 20 children suddenly became ill.

The children, ages 6 to 13, are students at the Ecole des Decouvreurs, next to Riverside Park, near 39th Ave. and 35th Avenue. in LaSalle.

The incident occurred around 11am on Monday, and all children had symptoms of nausea, dizziness, and vomiting.

At least three ambulances were sent to the school to treat and evaluate the sick students at the scene.

School officials evacuated the school and healthy students were taken to the École Notre Dame des Rapides, which is about 400 m away.

"Some children begin to vomit, vomit, vomit and not feel well, about 30 children and then close the school," said the mother of some students.

"There are a couple of kids at school cabinand the others they sent to school. "

Authorities are trying to figure out exactly why children were sick. They currently believe it was a gas leak, though no work was being done near the Ecole des Decouvreurs on Monday.

Parents will receive a letter and an email with details of what happened.
