If you are procrastinating to clean the house, let it be an incentive.

Harold and Tina Ehrenberg, a couple from Mandeville, Louisiana, were cleaning up for Thanksgiving guests when they found a lottery ticket they had bought months before. It ended up worth $ 1.8 million.

"We have family coming into town for Thanksgiving so I was cleaning the house and found some lottery tickets on my bedside table that we did not check," Tina Ehrenberg said in a statement released by the Louisiana Lottery.

It's good that the couple found the ticket when they did. The draw was on 6 June. The only winning ticket was theirs.

If they had waited another two weeks, they would have been able to zip; the window to claim the prize – 180 days – would have closed.

They both said they could not believe their good fortune.

"I called the hotline of winning numbers repeatedly," said Tina Ehrenberg.

Harold Ehrenberg added: "We keep checking the numbers again and again!"

After taxes, the couple took home $ 1.2 million, which they intend to put toward retirement.

"We have no plans to buy anything crazy or make great trips," said Tina Ehrenberg.

"The most fun," her husband added, "will deposit the check."
