An 80-year-old woman is recovering at the hospital after an overnight fire at her Vancouver building.
Vancouver Fire Services has received phone calls about a fire in the 700 blocks of West 8th Avenue shortly after 2:30 am on Saturday, according to assistant chief of operations Kevin Wilson.
The teams responded to the fire and rescued the woman from her suite on the third floor.
Wilson said he suffered first-degree burns to his neck, arms, face and back.
He said the building where she lived was old and did not have a sprinkler system installed to help fight the flames, but the teams were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other suites in the building.
The fire was considered accidental.
