What's New in the New Volkswagen Passat – Automotive News

After the debut of the American version, the Germans of Volkswagen presented the European version of the updated Passat. Interestingly, the two modifications have differences and there is a third. Last year, VW introduced a new Passat to China, then reformed the performance of the state, and now it is up to the modernization of the European version. Updates are for the sedan, wagon and alltrack versions. Only the wagon was shown at the show, as more than 90% of sales in Western Europe were the wagon.

Traditionally, foreign prizes are not much. New is the radiator grille, there is a change in the lights as well as the front and rear bumpers. The optical array of the headlights is borrowed from the new Volkswagen Touareg. The difference is also found in the rear, where the Passat is in the middle – a style borrowed from Arteon. The novelty of the salon is mainly in the instrument panel, where screens with diagonal of 6.5, 8 and 9.2 inches are available.

A key innovation is the expansion of active safety systems. In particular, the model can operate in semi-automatic mode at speeds up to 210 km / h. Intelligent cruise control, seat belt assist and automatic parking function are just part of the Passat's technological upgrade. To improve braking, a new electric brake is available, which was previously only installed in the GTE version.

As far as the engines are concerned, they are all equipped with new FAP filters. The TSI petrol engines are in 150, 180 and 272 hp versions, and TDI diesel is available in the 120, 190 and 240 horsepower versions. The hybrid modification can only be executed in the current by 55 km in the WLTP cycle. It should be noted that, from 2023, production of the Passat will be transferred from Germany to the Czech Republic. The updated version will be available in August.
