The Ford Kuga looks like a Porsche


At a special event in Amsterdam, Ford introduced the new Kuga for the first time. The exterior car was compared by many of those present as one of Porsche's premium brand crossover models. It turned out that in the design of the third generation of the Ford Kuga had the word and current customers of the car, in addition to the experts of the European division of the company. In addition, the Kuga is built on an absolutely new platform that is the basis of the latest Focus. Thanks to this, the crossover is relieved at 90 pounds and 10% increased the strength of the construction.

The car has a larger interior space, although the outer dimensions have not bloated so much. The length is 89 mm at the top (4524 mm) and the wheelbase is 20 mm. The Kuga is also slightly wider and shorter.

For the first time, Kuga will also be available in hybrid versions. Modification Kuga EcoBlue Hybrid is the so-called soft hybrid, consisting of a two-liter diesel engine with a power of 150 hp. and a starter generator powered by a 48-volt electric system. This car will spend 5 liters of fuel per 100 km of mileage.

The Kuga EcoBlue Hybrid improves diesel engine performance by assisting with an integrated belt start generator (BISG), replacing the standard alternator for energy recovery and storage while driving. This also significantly reduces fuel consumption.

The standard hybrid combines a 2.5-liter Atkinson engine with an electric motor, generator, lithium-ion battery (10.3 kWh) and Ford's automatic transmission.

The average fuel consumption here is 5.6 l / 100 km, the version available on the market from 2020 with front wheel or all four wheels, as well as the 6-speed manual transmission or the new 8-speed automatic transmission.

The third electrified version of the model is the Kuga Plug-In Hybrid and will be available from the model's market launch. It re-combines a 2.5-liter Atkinson engine with an electric motor, generator and lithium-ion battery (14.4 kWh) to deliver 225 horsepower.

in Europe will offer up to 50 km of electricity only, and is expected with a full battery the average cost drop to 1.2 liters per 100 km. The full charge of the 230 volt battery will take about 4 hours. The driver can choose between EV Auto, EV Now, EV Later and EV Charge modes.

The Kuga EcoBlue will be available with 1.5 and 2 liter engines with 120 and 150 horsepower. In addition to the EcoBlue units, the well-known EcoBoost engines will be available, which in this case will have a capacity of 1.5 liters and will develop 120 and 150 horsepower. These units are able to deactivate two of the cylinders at low loads – it will also save fuel in urban traffic jams.

All units can operate with a six-speed manual transmission and the new eight-speed automatic transmission. The maximum torque will be transmitted through these two transmissions, or only on the front or all four wheels. The large glass area, soft materials and high quality are noted in the hall.

The car features a FordPass Connect with WiFi, a head-up display, inductive charging for a smartphone, a 12.3-inch panel, a SYNC 3 with an 8-inch touchscreen display, a collision prevention system, an auxiliary reverse parking, as well as a function to open the trunk of hands free.

The modernized cruise control is now active along with tracking systems and traffic signals, which makes the car a second level autonomy. The Pre-Collist Assist technology allows the car to stop when pedestrians, cyclists and animals arrive in front of the car.
