Mercedes AMG is giving up the rear car show – Automotive News

All new Mercedes-AMG models, including the AMG GT, will no longer be available in a rear-wheel drive variant. That personally said the head of Mercedes-AMG, Tobias Moers.

More specifically, these are the next new generations of cars with the AMG index, which from 2021 will be only with a 4×4 moment-to-wheel transmission system.

The reason, as Morses said, is that customers want it. "Because of buyers' wishes, the company does not see the point of investing money in cars with a rear-end transmission," says Tobias Moers.

"When we offer the AMG E-Klasse rear-wheel drive and the 4×4 option, 90% of the cars sold were full transmission, and now with the new E63 with drift mode, you have a 4WD with rear-wheel drive that's enough," says Moers.

"We came to the conclusion that the rear transmission is a failure for the AMG in terms of practicality and safety," says the head of the AMG.
