Google is posting promotion after promotion to end its stock of devices in the Pixel 3 line. While praised for the fast performance and camera quality, smartphones have failed to "steal" a relevant slice from a market dominated by names such as Apple and Samsung.
Earlier this month, Google was able to offer a 50% discount on the price of Pixel 3 to anyone who purchased the device linked to Google Fi mobile operator. In this promotion, the 5.5-inch Pixel 3 sold for $ 449 and the 6.3-inch Pixel 3 XL came out for $ 399.
Last week the company also announced a promotion for users to save $ 200 on the purchase of one of the smartphones in the Pixel 3 line. Basically, they needed to purchase the device linked to Google Fi.

In the first week of April, Google also suspended the sale of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones in its official store. Smartphones remained available in some e-commerces, such as Best Buy, which sells the remaining stock of the Pixel XL from 64GB of memory for $ 399.99.
The Pixel 2 line was announced in October 2017 by Google and started to be sold later that month. At the time, consumers complained about the opaque colors of the devices, and later Google decided to perfect the screen with a software update that allowed users to change color saturation.

Ruth Porat, chief financial officer of Alphabet (owned by Google), acknowledged that the smartphone is not selling as much as it would like. Ruth said that Pixel's sales were lower year on year, in part because of "strong promotional activity across the industry, given some of the recent pressures in the premium smartphone market."
The comment was made after Alphabet posted its financial results this morning and disappointed investors with a 29% drop in company profits.
The latest rumors of the market say that a new device of the line Pixel 3 will hit the market for a lower price. Dubbed Pixel 3a, the smartphone is expected to look the same as the current Pixel line, but switch to a slower Snapdragon 670 processor, bring less standard storage (32GB instead of 64GB) and be built with plastic instead of glass in the back.
