Unusual transmission leaves experts intrigued by the case of a Frenchman who contracted amoebiasis. The fact was even published in the journal BMJ Case Reports.
The parasite lodged in the body of the man who had not left France, and that disease originated in tropical countries. Normally contagion occurs through food or water contaminated by human feces. What happened was that his wife traveled to India, Burma, Vietnam and Laos where there is little basic sanitation, except that she did not have symptoms at all.
Experts concluded that the 67-year-old man was infected by the parasite during intercourse, an unusual transmission. Through anal sex or the mouth's contact with that region can rather be responsible for the contagion.
The lack of hygiene causes the disease to proliferate. It is always recommended to wash the hands after the sexual act, or to move the region of the anus.
The symptoms of amebiasis are diarrhea, gas, feces with mucus and blood, intestinal infections, in addition to pus in the liver.
