Is Samsung Galaxy Fold really ready for commercialization? Many American journalists face faulty test copies. The collapsible display of borrowed devices began to show problems after only a few hours of testing.

Broken screen, flickering and marks

Several types of problems occurred for the testers, leading to a complete failure of the folding screen. CNBC's Steve Kovach released a video showing half of the screen shining after just one day of use.

Marc Gurman, a Bloomberg reporter, also had problems with Galaxy Fold after two days of testing. There, more than half of the screen is a problem and you can see marks appearing on the surface of the screen.

And also a problem faced by Dieter Bohn of The Verge, which saw brands appearing rapidly on the surface of the screen, and Brownlee Brands (MKBHD) also found the death of the device.

The issue of protection screen

At the same time, a T-Mobile operator posted a photo of Samsung's warning that the protection screen installed by default on the smartphone should not be removed. Problem, the alert message was not present in the boxes sent to reporters.

The other problem is that this screen does not appear to be totally at the origin of the malfunctions. If Marks Brownlee, and others said they tried to effectively remove the shield, causing the device to die, this is not the case with Dieter Bohn and a few other journalists. So there are at least two possible sources for this failure to arrive so quickly.

That protection screen is required and also easily removable is also a problem that Samsung will have to work on.

Samsung is working on the problem

Samsung quickly recovered the defective copies for analysis, offering new copies to the testers and also issued a statement.

The brand explains that it will very accurately analyze the reasons for this failure, noting that we should not remove the Galaxy Fold protection screen. It also emphasizes the difference between the units sent in advance to journalists and the final devices that will be marketed.

Difficult to know at the time how this problem will be generalized to the units that will be marketed by Samsung in a few days. The specter of Galaxy Note 7 clearly describes a problem that was quickly widespread for journalists who received the phone.

It should be borne in mind, however, that the Galaxy Fold is not a smartphone like any other. Samsung is here at the forefront of what is done in terms of design for a mobile device. Charge the manufacturer to properly handle any issues that customers will encounter with their after-sales service and to quickly improve product reliability.

The launch is scheduled for May 3.
