The official in charge of the Mathbaria police station, Shawkat Anwar Islam, said the villagers found the deer in front of Mamin Hawlader's house and arrested them. Police later retrieved the information after they reported it.

Shawkat Anwar said after the rescue that the deer was delivered to the Sharonkhola Range Bugti Range Officer of the Sundarbans. As the deer Sundarbans will arrive at the locality, it will be investigated.

Local people say they think a hunter brought the deer to the Sunderbans. Their claim is that they are often caught in the coastal areas of the Sundarbans due to deer hunting. Then the hunters sold the deer meat.

Mizanur Rahman Mollah, of the Sundarbans Forestry Department, said: "After receiving the news, the deer handed us over to the Mathbaria police station and handed over the police to us in the Sundarbans, arguing with senior officials.
