"Texts that are sometimes too big for the theater"
Prize Nestroy: Handke for the work of his life, Peters and Simonischek awarded as best actor.
"You're incomparable, and sometimes your lyrics are too big for the theater, but in the end!" With these words, the actor Klaus Maria Brandauer honored the poet Peter Handke, honored by the work of his life on Saturday at the 19th prize of the Nestroy Theater Prize at the Theater an der Wien. In his acceptance speech, the 75-year-old actor called for the return of theater to the things that set him apart: "Language, confrontation, rhythm." As the representative of the next generation of playwrights, Ferdinand Schmalz was honored for the best play. The 33-year-old Styria, who had contacted the theater as a student at Admont in Linz Phnix, received the award for his Hofmannsthal rewriting "everyone (dies)", which was premiered at the Burgtheater.
Repeatedly nominated Peter Simonischek could not accept his first Trophe as the best actor because he had to stand on stage as a result of a change of image. Representative thanked his son Benedikt, in the back of his speech was in large letters "Finally!" read. Simonischek was honored by his beloved Patriarch Afzal in the performance at the Academy Theater "The Who and the What" by Ayad Akhtar.
A member of the Burgtheater, Caroline Peters, won the award for best actress. Her roles in Simon Stone's "Hotel Strindberg" have earned her the title of "Actress of the Year" in the review of "Theater heute" magazine. She is currently seen in Snke Wortmann's comedy "The First Name" at the movies.
A double struck the German director Ulrich Rasche. The best performance in the German language was awarded to his spectacular staging of "The Persians" of Aeschylus at the Salzburg Festival. As early as 2017, his production of Mnchner "The Ruber" was praised in this category.
Nestroy for the best supporting role went to the German actress Drte Lyssewski. She was honored by her Annemarie Krause in the production of the theater of the academy "Before Sunrise", of Mhlviertlers Ewald Palmetshofer, after Gerhart Hauptmann. Cultural journalist Karin Kathrein (80) was also honored. After 19 years, she resigned the presidency of the jury Nestroy and received an honorable Nestroy.
