Frankfurt (APA / DPA) – At Frankfurt airport, more passengers have been served than ever before last year. Overall, the Fraport operator had more than 69.5 million passengers and therefore 7.8% more than in 2017, as the company announced on Monday in Frankfurt.
Only in August Fraport CEO Stefan Schulte raised his forecast to more than 69 million passengers. Now the increase was even more pronounced.
The growth was due both to the new targets offered and to the increase in frequencies by airlines, the company said. Fraport has even achieved the highest absolute growth in its history in Frankfurt, said CEO Schulte.
But growth has also brought major problems. Delays in handling caused annoyance to passengers. "Together with our partners, we are working to improve punctuality and reliability in aviation," Schulte said.
However, Fraport faces difficulties in the new year. The tariff dispute of the security personnel in the German airports threatens the warning until then more comprehensive. The trade union Verdi renewed its call for the labor dispute in eight German airports on Tuesday, including in Frankfurt.
Fraport's international affiliated airports also achieved significant growth last year, for example, in Slovenia, Brazil or Greece. Fraport wants to continue investing here. According to Schulte, large expansion projects are currently under way, especially in Greece, Brazil and Peru.
