With the Origin series five weeks away, Maroons trainer Kevin Walters will be sweating the Cherry-Evans form for Game I.
Cherry-Evans was also under consideration for the Maroons captaincy, but it is not yet known if he will be in a position to push for inclusion on June 5.
The news is a blow to Manly, who has been one of the surprise packages of 2019, winning four of his first seven games to stand sixth on the ladder.
The loss of his captain along with Blues star Tom Trbojevic sees Manly without his two best strikers for the next four rounds, at least.
