For Macy Menzie, age 9, every day is an act of courage.

The girl was diagnosed with a genetic condition when she was only 18 months old and multiple brain tumors at 3 years of age.

She still lives with multiple brain tumors and takes "one day at a time," said her mother, Suzannah Taylor.

But Macy and her mother are joining in the "Dare to Bare" Undie Run next weekend to raise money for the Children's Tumor Foundation and raise awareness about the genetic disorder Neurofibromatosis (NF).

Ms Taylor, who is Hobart's race director, said the reason for the event "stripped" was in breaking the barrier.

"It shows that we are all perfect the way we are," she said.

NF affects about 10,000 Australians and causes tumors that can affect important organs. It can lead to blindness, bone abnormalities, deafness, disfigurement, learning disabilities and death.

In Macy's case, the NF was diagnosed after she had infections in her first year of life and was not interested in crawling or walking.

On her third birthday, after she began falling asleep throughout the day, an MRI revealed several brain tumors.

She underwent major brain surgery and in the following years was treated with various chemotherapy drugs.

Macy's vision narrowed and she was diagnosed as legally blind in 2014.
