A Perth man who admitted to sexually abusing a young woman during group sex sessions involving up to four adults, including her mother, was sentenced to 21 years in prison.

Key points:

  • Tracey Coulter joined the abuse of the eight-year-old boy with his mother and stepfather
  • Judge Bruce Goetze described abuse as "depraved and perverted"
  • Coulter was sentenced to 21 years in prison and is eligible for probation in January 2037

Tracey Coulter, 57, pleaded guilty to a series of charges, including persistent sexual intercourse with a child, sexual penetration of a child and making an indecent recording.

The District Court was told that some of the abuses were registered and in two separate video clips handed over to police, the eight-year-old girl was shown being abused "simultaneously or in rapid succession" by three adults, including her mother and stepfather.

There was also what was described by Judge Bruce Goetze as a "sexual plaything" and at one point the mother was heard to say "she is definitely his mother's daughter."

The other abuse happened about a year earlier on three occasions when the girl was six or seven years old, and involved her being abused after the adults and she watched pornographic films involving children.

The court was informed that each time the girl was also given a smoking pipe that contained a stupefied substance and in one case she was forced to record some of the sexual activity among adults, including her mother again.

This was a birthday surprise & # 39;

One of the sex sessions took place around the girl's seventh birthday, and the court heard one of the adults tell her in advance that "this was a birthday surprise" for her.

Judge Goetze said he read an impact statement from the victim, who was now 12 years old, in which she said she sometimes felt that what happened was her fault.

"My comment to her, and she must understand, that this is not her fault, she did not do anything wrong," he said.

"She was all the time … a young innocent child."

Judge Goetze described the abuse as "depraved and perverted," saying that he had corrupted a child who in the video recording seemed "completely compatible" with the offenses being committed against her.

"That was standardized for her," he said.

Judge Goetze said one of the aggravating factors of the case was that the abuse was recorded.

"Why it was filmed, nobody knows," he said.

"Although not made to be disclosed, it has been disseminated and this child will live with the fear that at some future time … she may be shown, she may be recognized and have those offenses removed again."

He also said that the girl, because of her young age, may still not fully understand the effect of the "degradation and humiliation" that had been inflicted on her, something he said she may not realize until she was much older .

Videos are "indefensible": to judge

Coulter claimed to have policed that he was under the influence of methylamphetamine and had no memory of offenses, but that was not accepted by Judge Goetze, who described the videos as "indefensible."

"This was a perverted conduct, born of a distorted sense of desire and carnal lust … without any consideration for this young woman."

"She was totally corrupted."

"This is a despicable and despicable conduct, the complete contamination of an eight-year-old girl."

In deciding which sentence to impose, Judge Goetze took into account Coulter's first plea for guilt, which he said spared the girl from having to testify at a trial.

Coulter will have to serve 19 years before he can be released.

With the time already fulfilled, he will be the first to be released on parole in January 2037.
