It will be an end of years parties thinner than usual at the Argentine tables. O inflation, O unemployment and the devaluation they are a cocktail in this 2018 and the situation in the families registered a strong depression of the family economy. Christmas products in this context are no exception.
According to a Free Consumers of NGOs, the average Christmas basket products (sweet bread, chicken, cider, nuts and almonds) increased by 29.5% over a year ago.
In some cases, even the increases registered up to 69%. In addition, baskets of some large supermarkets have increased to 53 percentage points.
In general, the price evolution of the 24 products that comprise the Christmas basket is below the cumulative high in general prices (39.5%) and well below the presumed inflation for the year, which would be between 45 and 50%.
Among the products that rose the most are tuna in oil (69%), banana (66.67%) and chicken kilo (57.89%). To be able to buy the total of the products, the Free Consumers estimate that a significant amount must be disbursed: 2,561 pesos.
In both, sweet bread rose on average 21.36 percent, although some brands catapult it to 55.83%.
