The best antivirus in Windows 10 (November 2018)

As they do bi-monthly, AV-TEST published the results of the tests that they submit to the most used Internet antivirus in Windows 10. They analyze factors such as Protection, performance and usability, finally granting them a prize of "Top Product"In the case where it exceeds 17.5 out of 18 possible points.

Only six antivirus programs get 18 total points, with the best performance, protection and usability

In each of the tests, there are usually no significant changes, especially when most of the products analyzed already have high marks at all points analyzed. The 18 points are taken:

  • Avira Antivirus Pro
  • Bitdefender Internet Security
  • BullGuard Internet Security
  • Kaspersky Internet Security
  • Microworld eScan Internet Security Suite
  • Symantec Norton Security

Curiously, eScan and BullGuard They are at the top of the best antivirus, combining benefits in other products that are more expensive. From the top drop some antivirus like McAfee Internet Security and AhnLab V3, who stay 5.5 points of 6 in protection. Despite this, they still get the recommendation of the main product.

Windows Defender loses points this month, but remains one of the best antivirus in Windows 10

Curiously, anyone who misses this recommendation is Windows Defender in Windows 10, which lost points in relation to the two tests carried out in June and August. Antivirus from Microsoft hit 17.5 points on these two dates, to only 5.5 protection points. However, this October fell both in protection and performance to 5.5 points, reaching a total score of 17 pointss and losing the Top Product award which I had obtained in the previous two tests.

If we compare Norton with Windows Defender, we find that the first 100% of the 311 samples of zero-day attacks, while Windows Defender protected only against 99.3%. In the case of the most widespread and frequent malware, with 21,257 samples, both protected against 100% malware. Besides that, none of them fired false alarms or blocking of malicious content, improving over September, where both detected one of the samples of the 1.34 million files analyzed.

The rest of the antivirus in the analysis got 5.5 protection points, which is a very good figure. However, the only one who receives less is Malwarebytes Premium, with 4 points, obtaining 13.5 in the total sum. Therefore, we recommend that do not use this antivirus because it is not protecting your computers properly.

Among those that most affect performance, we find G Data InternetSecurity, with 4 points. In terms of usability, it is convenient to stay away from Malwarebytes Premium and PC Pitstop, with 4.5 and 3.5 points, respectively.
