From the first iPhone to this part, smartphones were the spoiled children of the technology industry. No wonder: they have generated billions of dollars and even sank other products, such as tablets.
But every empire has its twilight. First, it slowed down: the industry continued to grow, albeit slower. And now IDC talks about a drop in sales. In 2018, the reduction will be 3% compared to the previous year. The consultant said that the sector will grow again between 2019 and 2022. That's right: with a single digit.
"What we call" smartphone "has changed a lot in the last few years," said Melissa Chau of IDC in the report. How will sales grow again? The executive highlighted two relevant variables: phones without frames and flexible models.

The great advantage of these devices is the versatility: the screen folds and therefore they can mutate. For example, being a tablet becomes a smaller device depending on the use and convenience of the user.
Yet, Will cellphones be the life-savers of a sector that needs to get away from the red? Will they bring that fresh air the industry needs to get back on the road to growth?
For now, we can say that 2019 will be the year of the first deployment. When it reaches the market, this mode must pass the fire test: Will the innovation be so efficient and attractive that buyers want to renew their equipment that can not be duplicated?
