The new truck will reach the market in 2020. It stands out for the offroad capacity, typical of the American brand. High expectations for its impact

Jeep has just presented at the Detroit Motor Show one of the most anticipated vehicles for years, the Gladiator pick up, the first median since the disappearance of Comanche in 1992.

The new model that will begin to be commercialized in the USA. in the second quarter of 2019, bears the same name as the first vehicle that the Jeep produced in that segment in 1963, although it was known as Serie J.

As for the new version, Gladiator is based on Wrangler, and is defined by the brand as the "more capable of history" thanks to its towing, loading and off-road capability.

Equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar V6 engine, with a six-speed manual transmission or an automatic eight, it is capable of towing a maximum of 3,460 kg and carrying up to 725 kilos.

From a mechanical standpoint, it features the Command-Trac and Rock-Trac 4×4 traction systems, the third generation of the Dana 44 axles, the Tru-Lok front and rear electronic locking differentials and the Trac-Lok limited slip differential. .

In the design, the vehicle has a four-door cabin and two rows of seats, with a 1.5-meter-long cargo box, made of steel.

Inside, the model offers a generous-sized screen under which there is a large panel of buttons, a selector of steering modes and, in the lower part, the central tunnel with the gear selectors and the gear unit.

Vehicle engineering chief John Mrozowski acknowledges that his main concern was to produce a truck that meets the needs of the market. "The hardest part was ensuring 100% that we offered the capability and authenticity of a medium-sized pickup, which means towing and loading capacity, and producing a reliable vehicle that is at the heart of the market," he said.

In this way, the FCA group complements the offer in all segments: with RAM participating in the full size segment; with Fiat he positions himself among the girls, with Strada and Toro; and now, with the Jeep, it fills the gap between the medians.
