Automobile production fell 32.3% in January and exports, almost 30%

January data from the Association of Automobile Factories (Adefa) indicate that the production of cars in Argentina was 14,803 vehicles (automotive and utilities), which represents 27.7% less compared to December and 32.3% below the performance of the same month last year (when 21,858 units were produced).

"The performance of January, with the drag of December, leads to be very cautious regarding the behavior that the sector will have in the year"he pointed Luis Fernando Peláez Gamboa, president of Adefa and recalled that "in 2018, the market and the industry began with an inertia that led to estimates for record volumes." However, the financial turmoil led to the end of the year with sales and production numbers closer to the local average historical behavior. "

The car exported 7,403 vehicles, which reflected a decrease of 67.7% in relation to the volume exported in December and a decrease of 28.9% in relation to the same period last year.

In addition, monthly statistics showed sales to dealers of 30,038 units: a 38% drop in December and a 53.4% fall in January 2018 (64,452).

"With the December stops and its expansion in the first month, production has decreased, an impact that has been seen in exports that is why we have to wait for the behavior that the market will have after the end of the first quarter. Meanwhile, we continue to work on new international negotiations and the quest to improve competitiveness, "added Peláez Gamboa.

The result of foreign trade in vehicles remained a deficit, but decreased by 60%, from a red of 37,200 units to 14,897 in the first month of the year, mainly due to the effect of contraction of shipments imported from 47,609 to 22,300 machines.
