Cape Town – DA Ph. Phumzile van Damme was at the center of a social media storm after tweeting about an alleged racist incident at the V & A Waterfront.

Van Damme said he experienced racism and punched one of the attackers in the face in self-defense.

"The family. This lady was filming me all the time, so I tried to take pictures and that little shit on the black t-shirt came on my face and came inside my face and [said] "Voetsek you black" and played [my phone] in floor. He was threatening the violence, so in self-defense I punched him in the head, "Van Damme tweeted.
