Stormers players ask sponsors to intervene in the saga Treu

DHL reportedly gave WPRFU officials an ultimatum that they remove Paul Treu from the system or that he can withdraw as a sponsor.

On Sunday, it was reported that WPRFU president Zelt Marais wants Treu to replace Gert Smal as union director of rugby.

Treu, a former Blitzboks coach, was a technical assistant to Stormers last year. He clashed with fellow assistant Paul Feeney and left a Stormers review meeting.

Treu submitted a 26-page document detailing his grievances to the union council. It contained unfair treatment cases he believes he has been subjected to. However, an independent investigation canceled the WP Rugby of any irregularity.

According to Gavin Rich of SuperSport.com, the Stormers' players were extremely dissatisfied with any suggestion that Treu could take on the role of senior union coach and approached the sponsors to intervene in the matter.

The players were arrested at an emergency meeting chaired by captain Siya Kolisi on Sunday afternoon.

With Stormers' multiplayer contracts coming to an end later this year, Treu's potential appointment could lead to an exodus of players in the union.
