Smaller managers shine once again at Raging Bulls

In the difficult investment environment of recent years, it has been notorious as a number of smaller asset managers in South Africa have excelled in performance tables. This was again confirmed at the Raging Bull Awards on Wednesday night that acknowledged the funds and top performers in the past three and five years.

Of the six Raging Bull awards presented to South African funds, five went to funds run by smaller companies. The exception was the Sanlam Multi Managed Conservative Funds Fund which won in the category of South Africa's best multi-asset capital fund on a risk-adjusted basis in five years.

Most notably, the Fairtree Equity Prescient Fund was awarded the title of best overall share fund in South Africa on a risk-adjusted basis for the second consecutive year. This is a meritorious achievement at a time when the local stock market has been extremely difficult to navigate.

The list of winners of the Raging Bull Award is:

PSG Asset Management ranked second for the third consecutive year. Although the company has gained significant recognition in recent years, it remains a relatively small player in the industry.

The title of South African manager of the year went to Allan Gray. This was the third consecutive year that the country's largest asset manager has won this award.
