These are just the latest coastal improvements from the Parks and Recreation Department of the city.
"Our tide pools are popular locations as these shallow sea water pools are the ideal space for families with young children to take advantage of our coast," said JP Smith, a member of Mayco for protection and safety; and social services.
The modernization project, in the amount of R $ 6.1 million, included the construction of a new wall covering, the construction of a platform, the closing of old valves at the bottom of the pool and the rehabilitation of the children's pool, platform and steps in the natural pool of Soetwater. .
Work on the Glencairn tidal pool includes the demolition of the ancient remains of the wall, 90% of which had fallen due to several holes in the foundations; construction of a new wall with fiber reinforced concrete; and filling holes in the bedrock.
Other major projects that have been implemented off the coast of False Bay include upgrading the Miller's Point recreation area, the resurgence of the Fish Hoek walkway, the Strand wall and Fisherman's Lane in Strandfontein.
The department has implemented a number of other projects to upgrade facilities on an ongoing basis, though some have yet to receive funding.
"The city goes the extra mile to make sure our beach facilities are world class, but we need the public to do its part. Some of the challenges on our beaches include vandalism and theft on the premises," Smith said.
