Orlando Pirates doesn’t know if and when Zinnbauer will return

Orlando Pirates is unsure about the future of German coach Josef Zinnbauer after his emergency return to Germany.

Zinnbauer rushed to the airport after the Orlando Pirates 3-0 victory in the MTN8 Soweto Derby over the Kaizer Chiefs to catch an emergency flight back to Germany due to an undisclosed family crisis.

Orlando Pirates’ administrative manager, Floyd Mbele, confirmed that the club had been aware of the family emergency for more than a week. However, amid uncertainty, Mbele confirmed that Zinnbauer’s return now depends only on the German honoring his contract at the club, while an estimated return time is impossible to predict now.

Orlando Pirates sweating with the return of Zinnbauer

Minutes after leading Orlando Pirates to a historic 3-0 win over rival Kaizer Chiefs, Zinnbauer confirmed that he will return home to face a family crisis. The club later released a statement confirming that a special ‘license’ had been granted to its coach.

The statement also said that Zinnbauer will return to lead the Buccaneers and Mbele since then, clarifying when and if the German will return.

“We knew about the Zinnbauer family problem 10 days before the game, we were being informed all the time, but it was a matter of when he wanted to leave, before or after the derby or even after the international break. We (Orlando Pirates management) left the decision to him. ”- Floyd Mbele told SAFM.

“We are not sure when he will be back. We are leaving everything to the coach because it is a delicate subject. We hope you will come back because you have a contract with the club and you have to fulfill your obligations. But there is no deadline. “

Fadlu Davids will be the head coach

Zinnbauer’s assistant coach, Fadlu Davids, was tasked with leading the Orlando Pirates. The former Maritzburg United mentor will take charge of the team against Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday night, but there are still uncertainties about who will lead the team in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal at Soweto Derby on Saturday night.

“At the moment our focus is on the game against Bloemfontein Celtic, Fadlu Davids will lead the team. As for the derby, we will deal with that game after Wednesday, with the coach back or not. ”Floyd Mbele, administrative manager of Orlando Pirates, added.

Orlando Pirates hopes that their instability outside the field will not stop them in a crucial week of league and cup football. The Buccaneers made an important statement over the weekend by defeating the Orlando Pirates, however, their performance was overshadowed by the abrupt departure of their head coach.
