MTN has the best network in South Africa – confirmed by P3

P3 Communications latest research report confirms MyBroadband discoveries that MTN has the best network in South Africa.

P3 Communications is a German company that provides technology consulting and testing services for mobile networks.

For its most recent evaluation of the quality of the mobile network, the company conducted activation tests in South Africa between January 24 and February 11, 2019, using the Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphones.

It performed 5,200 voice tests and 4,600 tests per operator in cities (50%), cities (10%) and roads (40%).

Data testing measured HTTP download and upload speeds, web browsing, and YouTube video streaming.

In addition to their trigger tests, crowdsourcing performance data were collected and evaluated between November 2018 and January 2019.

MTN wins

The test of the P3 Communications network showed that MTN reigned supreme in voice and data network quality.

The table below shows the scores obtained by the voice and data service networks and the division of points in the categories cities, cities and roads.

P3 mirrors MyBroadband search

P3 Communications Results MyBroadband Network Performance Ranks, which were released in January.

The MyBroadband network quality test is similar to the P3 methodology and includes controlled drive testing and crowdsourcing testing.

MyBroadband, however, makes use of a wide range of high-end smartphones, including Huawei Companion 20 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S9, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Motorola Moto Z models.

The MyBroadband report differs even more from P3 Communications because only the data network is tested.
