The eighth season of the Fortnite Battle Royale finally arrived and the v8.00 patch aired today, February 28, on the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and mobile. In this article, you'll find everything you need to know about the new season, including patch notes.
"Ahoy, mateys!" Said the developers of Fortnite on Wednesday, February 27. "The eighth season is approaching and X marks the point! Downtime starts tomorrow, February 28 at 4:00 am (09:00 UTC)."
For many fans, this Twitter post was more than enough to confirm the pirate theme that had been suggested in Season 8 teasers before the official release. If you were one of those fans, you could pat yourself on the back.
What's new?
Pirate theme.
As mentioned above, it seemed almost certain that a pirate theme would stand out throughout Season 8. Whether that would involve just a few new cool skins or would include the ability of players to go into the ocean is uncertain.
After the patch notes aired on February 28, some of the questions were answered. However, we'll need to wait until the v8.00 downtime stops before we can find out more.
Pirate cannon
- Push the cannon into position, aim and shoot! Alternatively, get on the barrel and launch!
- The cannon will fire cannonballs or players at a great distance. Cannonballs and players can pass through various objects before stopping with a bang, dealing damage and repelling nearby players.
- Deals 100 damage to enemies in a direct hit and 50 damage to enemies within a small radius.
- Found throughout the environment.
Pirate Cannon: "Damage enemy sites or structures by firing a cannonball or become a special delivery, launching itself!"
Season 8 map changes
A series of leaks in Season 8 suggested that ongoing earthquakes would result in an erupting volcano and changing the face of the map forever.
The fourth and final image of the teaser for the new season, which was released on February 27, also seemed to confirm that this would happen.
In addition, the trees in Wailing Woods were rotting several days ago, as the eighth season was approaching, so many fans were convinced the site would be changed when the v8.00 patch was released.
New places have been added to the map.
The changes to the patch notes are as follows:
New locations
Explore new points of interest that have come up with the volcano, such as Sunny Steps and Lazy Lagoon.
- Added Lava
- Lava will deal 1 touch point damage and will cause players to jump off the surface. Watch out!
- Added volcanic vents
- Volcanic openings propel players and vehicles to the sky in a blast of hot air!
We'll update you with each map change when downtime is over and we have the chance to explore the Season 8 map.
Season 8 Battle Pass
We already had an idea of how some of the Battle Pass skins would be, thanks to a leak on the Xbox Dashboard!
Unfortunately, they did not give much more than we already knew in the leaks and preseason, so we had to wait for the patch notes before we found out more.
X-4 Wing-Tempestuous Aircraft and Vaulted Weapons
One of the game's most controversial additions to Season 7 was the X-4 Stormwing. The Fortnite developers jumped several times throughout the season, but they could never find a place where players were happy about it.
With that in mind, they confirmed that the X-4 would be shaken when Season 8 began. But that's not all, as several tips from developers have suggested that items and weapons that were saved in previous seasons could make a glorious return to the beginning of Season 8.
Here is a complete list of weapons and items for the patch v8.00:
- Smiling snowman
- Chiller Grenade
- X-4 Stormwing
- Shopping cart
- All ground kart
