LONDON (Reuters) – Apple said on Monday it would release a software patch later this week for a bug that allows iPhone users to listen to audio from users who have not yet accepted a video call.

The bug, which Reuters has been able to reproduce, allows an iPhone user to make a call using Apple's FaceTime video call feature to listen to the recipient's phone audio even though the recipient has not yet answered the call. The bug seems to depend on Apple's group video call feature.

Apple announced the appeal last summer but later removed it from the first trial versions of its iOS 12 operating system. Apple released the appeal to the public in late October.

"We are aware of this problem and have identified a fix that will be released in a software update later this week," an Apple spokesman said in a statement.
